Ever since I learned of the photo site "People of WalMart", I have been paying more and more attention to the inhabitants of said store. I finally decided to do a strip of one of those visits. I easily have a hundred more, but none i think as ghastly hilarious as some of the photos from that site.

This may come across as one of those, "You Had to Be There!" type of moments. The phrase of course comes from an old SNL skit that Mike Myers used to do. Say it with an exaggerated British accent.

Max is not like Xan at this age when it comes to bedtime. Max tends to be a little more chatty and animated that I wonder if he'll even want to sleep, but at some point he will dutifully point to his crib (can't convince him to use his "big boy" bed yet...) and then we usually don't hear a peep from him.
I am still having a little trouble capturing Max. He leans a bit toward how I drew Xan in this strip.
FACT: yes, the cd I play Max starts out with a Lucy Knisley tune. It's gotta a mixture of mellow tunes from Lucy, Foo Fighters, Neil Young, Moby, and Pink Floyd, to name a few. The cd of mellow tunes we did with Xan first, and continue it on with Max.

My wife says I'm too sentimental, and perhaps she's right. This strip is all about sentimentality of the past.I realized we lived around the corner from where my 2nd girlfriend grew up and lived until her mid twenties about six months ago, if even that. We've only lived in this house a little over two years, so I wonder what took so long? Now I pass the bus stop I used to wait at the nights I'd walk her home after a date and man, it's too weird to think this relationship is almost twenty years old.

So this is a comic I did that just didn't work out. It should've been spread over another page. Jamming all those lyrics in I learned that Jim Steinman is a wordy bastard when it comes to songs.
And now, for something completely different...

A number of years ago I did a project called My Day in the Life of Jay, where friends wrote and illustrated their true life experiences about me. I wanted to do a second book along the same lines when someone suggested the tales all be fictional, and some were even to be super bizarre like me as a junkie, etc. I received only one submission despite having a number of parties interested and the project never came to fruition. Brian Payne did this funny three pager, and I'm glad it's surfacing somewhere now.

One of my favorite one pagers from the Pasta Shop days. Especially liked the headbanging panels. Black Flag and Rollins Band were my frequent music companions while doing the nightly clean up.

THe first is of course a rarely seen strip about my Sam the Record Man days, with wonderful inks and letters by Andrew Foster. The second is for the amazing James Kochalka, who is ending an almost fourteen year run on his awesome daily strip American Elf. It is also the first time in over two years that I've done something in my own daily strip style.
